Grabener Coin Press

Grabener coin press number GK MP 360 / 31824 was manufactured in Germany in 1986. It went directly into service at the US Denver Mint, where it was employed to strike all of the mint set coins, commemorative coins, and medals produced at the Denver Mint from 1986 to approximately 2001. When the Denver Mint ceased production of commemorative coins in the late 1990s, the press became surplus. It was sold at auction in 2001, and then sat disassembled and collected dust for six years in a warehouse outside Denver. Moonlight Mint (in association with DC-Coin.com) acquired it in early 2007 and completed the restoration in December 2008.

During the restoration, 412 US Mint coin blanks were found scattered inside the press, along with some struck coins, medals, and other debris. These Grabener coin press medallions were struck by this press, and only on the items found inside it.

All of the currently-available 2008 Grabener press medals are ANACS certified MS67, and come with a special hand-signed label sealed inside the case.

All of these 2008 Grabener coin press medallions have the following legends on them:

(Obverse)
This medal was stamped by a Denver Mint surplus Grabener coin press, on a circa 1986-2001 standard U.S. coin blank found inside it.

(Reverse)
U.S. Mint service 1986-2001, restored by Moonlight Mint 2008.
