Concept President Dollars
In 2006, this series of four concept dollars (also known as "Presidential Preview Medallions") was designed and minted for the Home Shopping Network (HSN) and Cable Shopping Network (CSN). They were sold on TV in December 2006 and January 2007. Daniel Carr appeared in person on a couple of the live TV shows. The medallions were designed, sculpted, and minted well before the US Mint released any images of their proposed President Dollars. The purpose of this issue was so that HSN/CSN would have something to show on TV well before any US Mint President dollars were released. HSN/CSN sold sets of four medallions, with an option to subscribe to their President Dollar program which would include automatic shipments of rolls of the new US Mint President Dollars as they came out. All of the President Medallions sold by HSN/CSN had a satin finish and were struck in brass. There were two different reverse designs - Eagle Head and Statue of Liberty. Approximately 2,500 of each medallion with the Eagle Head reverse were sold on TV. Approximately 10,000 of each medallion with the Statue of Liberty reverse were sold on TV.
All of the concept dollars listed below are struck in silver and/or have a proof finish. These varieties were not offered on TV and the mintages are considerably lower than the versions sold on TV (the final mintages are 250 or less for all types listed below, with some mintages as low as 11).
