Item Number: mm_2000_1848cal_Au
The cost for this option is $350 PLUS the host coin to over-strike. This product MUST be over-struck only on genuine 1850-1876 (Type-1 or Type-2) gold Double Eagles. You will receive the exact same coin back, after over-striking.
Brilliant satin finish, reeded edge, about 33.3 grams.

No Double Eagles were minted prior 1849 (and only a couple of the 1849 exist). In 1848 the US Mint sourced some newly-discovered gold from California and used it to produce 1848 Quarter Eagle coins at the Philadelphia Mint. Those coins were counter-stamped "CAL." prior to release. Some people consider them to be the first American commemorative coins. No other coins ever had a US Mint applied "CAL" counter-stamp.

To order, mail a suitable coin, plus $350 check (payable) to:

NOTE: Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes.

By purchasing one or more of these, the buyer agrees to provide full disclosure of their origin when reselling them. Failure to provide potential buyers with complete and accurate information when offering these could result in criminal and/or civil fraud charges. In other words, don't try to sell to unaware buyers as original coins of this date.

Since these are over-struck on existing coins, there may be faint evidence of the original coin design showing since the over-strike is usually not perfectly aligned with the original strike.

Do not attempt to use these as legal tender. This product is NOT endorsed or approved by the US Mint, US Treasury, or US Government.
