|
Item Number: mm_0100_1805_475_C
|
The cost for this option is $475 plus the host coin to over-strike. If the coin was previously holed and needs a silver plug or re-plug, choose this $450 option. If the coin only requires the usual cleaning and no major repairs then choose the $300 option instead. You can send coins to: MM, P.O. Box 7486, Loveland, CO 80537-0486.
You will receive the exact same coin back, after over-striking.
Circulated (antiqued) finish.
No US silver dollars were minted with dates 1805 to 1835. The 1804 Draped Bust Silver Dollars are renowned for their rarity and are prized by collectors. This over-strike is a “what if ?” piece showing what could have been had the US Mint continued minting dollars with this design after the “1804” issue.
NOTE: Defacing of US coins is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes.
By purchasing one or more of these, the buyer agrees to provide full disclosure of their origin
when reselling them. Failure to provide potential buyers with complete and accurate information when
offering these could result in criminal and/or civil fraud charges. In other words, don't try to sell to unaware buyers as original coins of this date.
Since these are over-struck on existing coins, there may be faint evidence of the original coin design showing since the over-strike is usually not perfectly aligned with the original strike.
Do not attempt to use these as legal tender.

The over struck coin is a 1798 Bolender 27 die variety that is rarity 2. The coin had a large, about 3mm, hole and was graded by PCGS as VG detail. It had 2 rather annoying edge dings and was not a "desirable" item as such. This coin has had a miraculous transformation as well as being 7 years newer. The edge dings are hardly noticeable and the plug for all purposes is not detectable. I think I may have located it. Dans' repairs and striking have exceeded all expectations making this a true work of art!
