Many different commemorative half dollars were produced by the US Mint during the “classic” commemorative period of 1892 to 1954. Several of them commemorated events such as the Columbian Exposition. Others commemorated people and places. One event that was not commemorated with a coin was the Norse American Centennial of 1925. Postage stamps were issued for the event and the US Mint produced octagonal medals in silver and a few in gold. These lacked a denomination and so they were medals and not coins. This was one of the few medallic issues by the US Mint that could have been a commemorative half dollar instead.
