Item Number: mm_peso_1902s_pl

Proof-like, over-struck using polished dies. Some evidence of underlying host coin design may be faintly visible. Housed in a non-PVC flip and includes a small certificate.

The United States took over administration of the Philippine Islands at the end of the Spanish-American War. Philippine coins under the US administration were first issued in 1903. No USA/Philippine coins were ever minted with a “1902” date.

These are privately over-struck on genuine USA/Philippined 90% silver pesos that were originally minted from 1903 to 1904.

The "S" mint mark is actually tripled (S/S/S) and the "1" in the date has a straight serif. Both of these aspects are varieties found on a few other USA/Philippines pesos.

A surplus Denver Mint coin press is used in the over-striking process.

NOTE: Defacing of coins for novelty purposes is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes. By purchasing one or more of these, the buyer agrees to provide full disclosure of their origin when reselling them. Failure to provide potential buyers with complete and accurate information when offering these could result in criminal and/or civil fraud charges. In other words, don't try to sell to unaware buyers as original coins of this type.

The pictures accurately show what the coins look like. No photo editing was performed. There may be subtle differences between coins. Since they are over-struck on existing coins, there may be faint evidence of the original coin design showing.

Do not attempt to use these as legal tender. This product is NOT endorsed or approved by the US Mint, US Treasury, US Government, or the government of the Philippines.
