Premium quality, individually-handled, consistent with MS-67+ grade. Some evidence of underlying host coin design may be faintly visible. Housed in a non-PVC flip and includes a small certificate.

The original design for this coin came from the French sculptor Charles Pillet. The first minting of the design was some pattern 50-Centavos coins dated 1907 (one 50-Centavos dated 1908 is also known). The full Peso size coins with this design were only minted from 1910 to 1914 (as well as a sole pattern coin dated 1908 and 36 pattern coins dated 1909). Pillet was apparently unhappy with the final product since it did not measure up to the quality of his original sculpt. More information can be found in the book “Mexican Beauty – Un Peso Caballito” by Alan Schein, who consulted on this project. These over-strikes correct the deficiencies in the original coins via increased detail, higher relief, and full [over]-strikes. All are struck over Caballito silver pesos originally minted from 1910 to 1913.

These are privately over-struck on genuine Mexico 90% silver Caballito pesos that were originally minted from 1910 to 1913. The original edge lettering of the host coin will show to some degree.

A surplus Denver Mint coin press is used in the over-striking process.

NOTE: Defacing of coins for novelty purposes is legal so long as the defacement isn't for fraudulent purposes. By purchasing one or more of these, the buyer agrees to provide full disclosure of their origin when reselling them. Failure to provide potential buyers with complete and accurate information when offering these could result in criminal and/or civil fraud charges. In other words, don't try to sell to unaware buyers as original coins of this type.

The pictures accurately show what the coins look like. No photo editing was performed. There may be subtle differences between coins. Since they are over-struck on existing coins, there may be faint evidence of the original coin design showing.

Do not attempt to use these as legal tender. This product is NOT endorsed or approved by the US Mint, US Treasury, US Government, or the government of Mexico.
